recent influences

The past 3 years saw a turning point in my love for music. You see, ive loved rock music ever since i was 13 years old. Recently however, ive been seriously digging house music. It all began when i started to go to clubs around makati. Back then, the places i was exposed to were the rock clubs such as Mayric's, Freedom bar, etc. where my band used to play. Going to dance clubs gave me a whole new audio-visual experience.

Fast forward to the present. Now, i still consider myself a newbie as a fan of the house music genre. I barely know the dj/artists of some songs i like.. well, except for the really popular djs. Right now, im trying to find out more about Steve Aoki. Yup, he's the guy who recently came here in manila to play in embassy. I just knew about him when I heard him being interviewed on the radio the night before his set. Man, i shouldn't have passed that chance to go to his show. Anyway, after hearing him in the radio, i went to his website to listen to some of his songs. His music is very interesting. It's not your usual tugsh-taksh house since he's also heavily influenced by rock. Anyway, i also checked youtube for his live performances.

Hehe, that guy works it like it's a rock show. One clip showed him jumping into the crowd..much like what you'd see in a deftones concert. Well, i heard he also did this in his gig here but after catching him, the crowd immediately put him back on the floor. olats. hehe

Artists like steve aoki are what's inspiring me right now. And even popular ones like kaskade, van dyk and a lot more who are equally great music producers but whose names i failed to take note. Seeing the crowd jumping and enjoying the music in their live performances are the stuff any dj would dream about.

A Lesson in Experimentation

As one of the early steps towards making my own music, i tried looking for available software in greenhills. I've heard of cakewalk, soundforge and acid during my band days. But i was intrigued by one cd i saw. It was called Dance eJay Virtual Music Studio.

It claims that you could: RECORD your own sounds and CREATE a song in five minutes. Ok so i decided on tripping on it. I bought it and loaded it in my pc. After a few minutes of tinkering, all i can say is olats. It was quite hard to make a decent track. It's saving grace however would be the drum machine. I made some cool beats with that thing. Anyway, i'll try to upload some later.
here's the screencap

Ok, so the lesson i learned here is that i should never trust something i haven't heard before. I'd definitely have to research some more in the net. ..And one more thing, piracy aint cool. I'd definitely have to invest to get quality stuff.

My next step is to get some advice from the mac imusicians.. i'll update you on this.

Here goes nothing..

Ok, so this is how it feels to blog.

This will be some sort of a challenge for me since im really not good at writing.. much less, writing creatively. Anyway, this officially starts my quest to becoming a dj.. a club DJ/Producer to be exact. Yes, i may be dreaming a little bit here but after years of suppressing my passion for music, I feel that IT is time.

I guess it's proper that i first introduce myself. You guys can call me Dizzee. I'm 27 years old. Grew up in the city where every chicken is chicken bacolod. :) Studied in up diliman and now currently working in a personal care company. I used to be in a band back then in UP. Did our rounds in org events and in clubs such as mayric's, etc. It was fun but the band had to break up after a few years due to practical reasons. So then i started focusing my time in the corporate world.. trying to climb that cliche corporate ladder. It's pretty exciting in the beginning. But after almost 7 years, you'll start thinking about the other important stuff in your life. So now that i have some extra money, and now that i have a little bit of extra time, i've decided to rekindle and pursue my passion--Musica baby!

..Which brings me back here. I've decided to chronicle (naks) my quest towards that first ever DJ gig that i've been dreaming about. Plus of course, seeing people dance to my own music would be the best part of that dream! This blog will be some sort of a journal and a time capsule as i proceed with each step towards this little dream of mine.

To give u a little peek of my plans, here's the timeline i'm looking at:

  • In the next month - research and purchase equipment (probably a mac, and some software)
  • In the next 2 months - start experimenting with tracks and songs
  • In the next 3-5 months - recording my own music
  • In the next 4-6 months - learning to actually DJ
  • In the next 6-12 months - hopefully play my own music in a club setting (!)
Ok. So i'll be updating this blog regularly.

Your comments and suggestions will be very much appreciated! :)

Sige, i'll be back in a few to put up some stuff again. Ayt.
